Making Peace with Time Pieces

From where I am sit, four clocks are in plain view, five if I squint at entertainment unit. I can almost see the green digital numerals behind smoked glass under the TV. Just out of eyeshot, same room, is a glass-domed golden wind-up clock that doesn’t work right now. When it does, the twisting balanced pendulum makes a great hypnotic toy.
I can hear the ticking of the round wall clock in the kitchen, one of three in that room. On the counter, an assortment of watches in a swamp grass basket. In our house, there’s no real reason to ask for the time...
